Shell more than twice as long as high, some species posteriorly alate, umbones approximately 0.25 of shell length behind anterior extremity, smooth or ornamented with radial ribs, ligament areas broad, with several chevron grooves converging toward beaks, with or without anterior myophoric buttress, hinge long and straight
