Commonly, but not invariably, truncated behind, interior smooth or ribbed, with gaping front and rear margins, LV distinctly larger than right, byssal notch present in RV of juveniles, obsolete in adults, auricles of LV acuminate, inner ostracum with concentric crossed-lamellar structure, outer ostracum radially fibrous in LV and hexagonal prismatic in RV
